Organization Programming

SILC offers a variety of programming opportunities throughout the school year, including Information Fairs, Student Officer Training Day, Officer/Advisor Workshop Series, and Jayhawk Choice Awards.  Officers/members of organizations are notified of upcoming programs so they are able to participate.  Should you have any questions regarding these programs, or have suggestions for adding a new program, contact SILC at (785) 864-4861 or by email at silcfront@ku.edu.

Information Fairs
Hawkfest Sign up's go out July 1, 2018.Each year during Hawk Week, the Student Involvement & Leadership Center (SILC) and the Kansas Alumni Association host a student group information fair, with approximately 180-200 spots available for student organizations to table during the event. Sign-up information will be available to the KU student organizations via a Rock chalk central email on July 1. WinterFest will be on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the Kansas Union- 4th Floor Lobby area.This service event is geared toward KU new and incoming students as well as students searching for involvement opportunities on campus! In collaboration with KU student organizations and departments, this free event will feature student organizations and departmental events, as well as free food and prizes!

Officer Training Day
This half-day program is usually held in late-September or early-October each year. The program consists of breakout topics, such as Diversity and Inclusivity, Nuts and Bolts to keep your organization running, Event Planning and Marketing, various topics on Leadership, and an overview of Funding and Finances that are important for your group to know (Pepsi, Multicultural Education Fund (MEF), Student Senate, Student Union Activities, and Fundraising ideas for your organization). The event is typically held from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on a Saturday and includes free lunch and giveaways for the student attendees. Officer/Advisor Workshop Series
SILC offers one-hour workshops bi-weekly to student organization officers/members throughout the school year. Past topics have included conflict resolution, event planning, funding sources, leadership/team building, marketing and social media, officer training and transition, and risk management. Once the schedule of topics/presentations for the semester has been set, student organizations and their members will be notified through Rock Chalk Central (www.rockchalkcentral.ku.edu). Jayhawk Impact Awards

Each year in the spring semester (usually in mid to late-April), SILC hosts the annual Jayhawk Impact Awards, an award ceremony aimed at recognizing the hard work of our student leaders and student organizations on-campus. Each year, nine award categories are available for student groups and/or their members to submit applications, which usually become available to the student groups in late-March.  Applications can be submitted via email to ekelley2@ku.edu, or in person at the Student Involvement & Leadership Center (4th Floor, Kansas Union).
